Sinds vanmorgen post Graspop de eerste namen op Facebook. Om het kwartier volgt er een nieuwe naam.

Blijf dit bericht volgen want er komen steeds meer namen bij.

First band for today: The SPUDMONSTERS!

EMMURE: Several years ago this was still pretty much an unknown band in Europe but all that changed in 2010 with Emmure's participation in the Never Say Die! Tour, one of Europe’s main hardcore tours. They must have made quite an impression because they were invited again the following year as second headliners besides Suicide Silence. This band proves that hardcore doesn’t have to be intricate to...

Whitechapel plays a mix of modern death metal laced with hardcore influences. If you like fast, hard and brutal deathcore you’re gonna love Whitechapel.

Deathcore is all the hype in metal circles right now and there are certainly a number of bands that stand out above the competition. One of those leading bands in the genre is Winds of Plague.

A generous helping of Bay Area thrash with a bunch of black metal influences and punctuated with loads of melodious riffs, that’s the Skeletonwitch recipe. They are making their first GMM appearance. These gentlemen are slowly but surely making a name for themselves and deservedly so. Next June they will show exactly why they are on the verge of a major breakthrough.

Ensiferum’s followers have elevated this Finnish folk metal act to the status of demigods. Their fanbase is not only extremely broad but also exceptionally dedicated. Early next year, Ensiferum will start work on the follow-up to From Afar. Six years ago they set the marquee ablaze and this time around, we expect nothing less.

Winterfylleth combines catchy riffs and thumping black metal with intelligent lyrics celebrating the island’s Anglo-Saxon history. These guys are set to conquer the continent next and the invasion starts at GMM.

It’s always a pleasure to catch a live show by the likes of H2O. These guys have dominated the NY hardcore scene since 1995 with their good-humoured and positive mix of punk and hardcore. If you’re into energetic punkrock, you know where to go!

Several years ago, Comeback Kid proved that Canada has more to offer than snow, wildlife preserves and reindeer. Today, Comeback Kid is one of the leading bands on the hardcore scene. Comeback Kid played at GMM2008. Now they are back for more!

What started out as a two-man outfit in 1992 quickly developed into a full-fledged band Nasum. Then, in 2004, disaster struck as singer/guitarist Mieszko perished in the Boxing Day Tsunami. The band decided to call it quits but meantime a 2012 reunion consisting of a limited number of shows has been announced as a final farewell to the fans and also to mark the band’s twentieth anniversary. We’re counting on you to give them the send-off they deserve.

True death metal fans will certainly recall the glorious day when one John Tardy’s signature voice first grunted 'Slowly We Rot' against an impenetrable guitar wall inspired on the likes of Celtic Frost. That was over twenty years ago and Obituary has been at the forefront of the death metal scene ever since!

Graspop Metal Meeting likes to promote promising young bands but we also try not to forget the household names. Death Angel formed in 1982 and the San Francisco thrashers wrote history in the late eighties and early nineties with classic albums such as The Ultra-Violence, Frolic through the Park and Act III. The group disbanded in 1991 following a severe road accident that left drummer Galeon critically injured, only to reform somewhat unexpectedly ten years later. Since then, Death Angel have added The Art of Dying, Killing Season and Relentless Retribution to their already impressive catalogue. These guys know how to party so roll up your sleeves!

If you like complex metalcore, tight riffs and lightning-fast drums you shouldn’t forget to include August Burns Red in your GMM schedule. Their set will showcase their latest album Leveler, a CD described by critics as hard, uncompromising and ingenious.

Ask metal fans to name the first thrash bands that come to mind and chances are they’ll cite Anthrax, Megadeth, Kreator, Death Angel and the like. Apart from these major bands, there is another thrash giant worth mentioning and that’s Arizona-based Sacred Reich. This is one set traditional thrash fans will definitely not want to miss.

Nowadays any atmospheric metal band with a female lead vocalist is labelled gothic metal but let’s not forget this subgenre is actually rooted in Halifax in rainy old Albion. Paradise Lost 's 1990 debut Lost Paradise and their subsequent two releases were pure death/doom albums. Their 2011 live release Draconian Times MMXI proves they can still deliver the goods so don’t miss out!

None other than legendary New York hardcore band Sick Of It All are making their seventh GMM appearance next summer! If you’re new to these hardcore giants their 2011 compilation Nonstop is probably a great introduction. Their next album is scheduled for release in 2012 so watch out for new material at GMM.

Lamb of God is responsible for eight groundbreaking and rock-hard albums, with record sales in excess of two million copies in the US alone. Lamb of God is quite popular on this side of the Atlantic as well. Considered one of the leading bands of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, Lamb of God’s music has been described as a mix of thrash and death metal with a shot of metalcore.

In olden days, the Vikings were the scourge of Europe. More than a millennium later, AMON AMARTH's lyrics tell ancient tales of the Viking Age and Norse mythology. However, the group insist they are not a Viking metal band despite the lyrical similarities. Their music was once described as “a compelling fusion of buzzsaw riff work, melodic harmonies and soul-crushing rhythms punctuated by Hegg’s callous black/death roar and accounts of Norse battles and treachery” and that sounds about right.

There comes a time when promising metal acts must step up and take it to the next level. This is the breaking point for many young bands but Children Of Bodom is certainly not among them. The Finnish five-piece are making their fifth GMM appearance next summer and after twenty years, they are still one of the trendsetters in what they themselves prefer to call extreme metal. Their live shows never disappoint so this is one to look forward to!

The Norwegian black metal outfit Dimmu Borgir is one of the festival’s household names. The band’s symphonic black metal set the marquees on fire on four past occasions. Their 1997 release Enthrone Darkness Triumphant is still an absolute black metal classic and it broke the band worldwide. A word of advice: don’t be late or the best seats in the house will be taken…

Straight from the Sunshine State, we are pleased to welcome back the guys from Trivium to GMM. Five albums into their career, Trivium still refuse to cook the same dish twice: they continue to experiment with different styles and influences and this keeps it interesting for old and new fans alike. Clean vocals, blood-curdling screams and acoustic stuff are all well within charismatic frontman Matt Heafy’s range and the music varies from metalcore to thrash, death, prog and alternative. In the early days, Trivium could only dream of a golden future; today they are making it happen.

After 37 years and more than 20 albums, Motörhead have every right to call themselves the undisputed kings of heavy rock ‘n’ roll. Formed in 1975 by Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, Motörhead was immensely successful in the seventies and eighties with Overkill, Bomber, Iron Fist and No Sleep ‘til Hammersmith and at every concert, young and old still bellow the words to Ace of Spades. The band has always had a large following but Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Deey seem to become even more popular as time wears on. Their latest album The Wörld Is Yours was warmly received by fans and critics alike and they’ve been playing to sold-out venues for months. Motörhead are as fast and as loud as they ever were and with the new generation of metal fans being turned on to the band, their future is assured.

Tot zover de nieuwe namen voor vandaag! Uiteraard mogen we de grote headliner niet opnieuw vergeten vermelden die al eerder bekend was: niemand minder dan Black Sabbath!
