5 nieuwe bands voor Dunk!festival

Het Dunk!festival voegt vijf nieuwe bands toe aan de line-up.

Die vijf bands zijn Pelican, Fennesz, Of the Vine, Hubris en Turpentine Valley.

Pelican

These Chicago legends feel like exactly what we need after these past two years off; their assertive, aggressive blend of thoughtful post-metal and no-bullshit, driving hard rock is more than enough to administer a much-needed shot of adrenalin back into our under-nourished minds and bodies. Reliable veterans as ever, they’ll no doubt be ready with a set designed to blow the crowd back a few steps and serve notice that we’ve returned to a much-needed space where we can experience some uninhibited release after a period riddled with inhibitions.

Fennesz

A veteran of the Austrian techno scene in the ‘90s, Christian Fennesz emerged in 2001 with his record Endless Summer, which helped redefine the landscape of electronic music. A meeting point of pop sensibilities and boundary-testing glitch experimentalism, the album explored the idea of taking lush, attractive melodies and heavily manipulating them, breaking them in the interest of rebuilding something new and entirely unique. In the process Fennesz inspired many other artists to re-evaluate their artistic priorities and ambitions. We’re honored to have this luminary of experimental music on our stage sharing his pioneering works with us.

Of The Vine

Atlanta, Georgia’s Of The Vine spent the better part of the 2010’s as one of the most criminally underrated bands in all of post-rock. But we hope to rectify that with their first European dunk! appearance, following their impressive contributions to dunk!usa in 2017. Their music takes time to develop, but it’s well worth the wait to experience the breathtaking results of their labors. Their new material folds in fresh elements, including the addition of vocals and an engagement with darker themes and heavier tones, both of which have contributed greatly to their continued artistic evolution.

Hubris

This Swiss quartet’s 2020 record Metempsychosis stands as one of the finest post-rock efforts of the past few years and has continued to build an ever-widening circle of passionate, loyal listeners. To borrow a fantastic piece of phrasing from someone describing the record, it is “flawless and definitely not flowless.” That sums it up incredibly well: hubris. excels at writing music that is clean, crisp, and unceasingly locked in, even as they navigate lengthy compositions. Attendees can expect a high-energy performance that is both conscience-expanding and emotionally effecting.

Turpentine Valley

This Belgian trio released their debut on dunk!records only a few months prior to COVID’s first appearance in our collective consciousness, and they’d been slated to play the 2020 festival before that was forced to a halt. So, it’s appropriate that their long-delayed dunk! debut will be coming not long after the release of their sophomore record. Their music is characterized by both its unbridled aggression and careful craftsmanship, and possesses a natural flow and artistic chemistry that helps it maintain an engaging immediacy

Dunk!Festival gaat in 2022 door van 26 tot en met 28 mei.
