Er is een nieuwe sensatie uit het land van de rijzende zon, en Mahousyoujoninaritai is de naam van de nieuwste exporthit uit Japan!

There's a new sensation from the land of the rising sun, and Mahousyoujoninaritai is the name of the latest export hit from Japan!

Het trio, bestaande uit frontvrouw Kazi Baziru (zang), Gari (zang/schreeuw) en Ui Viton (gitaar), heeft zich ten doel gesteld de harten van fans van het hardere genre te veroveren met hun wilde mix van metal, punk en EDM over de hele wereld.

Mahousyoujoninaritai, letterlijk 'een magisch meisje willen zijn', is een band die in 2014 werd opgericht door producer/ontwikkelaar ADULT YUkun als een vijfkoppig commercieel en creatief team. De leden werken ook regelmatig samen met illustratoren, fotografen en andere jonge, opkomende makers in zowel studio-opnames als live optredens. Ze zijn tot 2020 gelabeld onder SONY MUSIC.

Mahousyoujoninaritai heeft het themalied gezongen voor de populaire Japanse anime "Pazudora", die twee jaar lang werd gebruikt. Ze hebben een aantal zeer bekende anime-nummers gecoverd van "Ojamajo Doremi", ONE PEACE", "Haruhi" en meer.
De band klinkt deels metal, punk en EDM, terwijl ze elementen van rollenspellen doordrenkt, niet alleen in hun liedjes en teksten, maar ook in hun video's en live optredens, waardoor een geheel nieuw 'Japans alternatief' genre ontstaat. Hun unieke benadering van muziek en optreden heeft de aandacht getrokken van fans en de muziekindustrie, nadat ze slechts vier maanden na de oprichting van de band een prestigieuze wedstrijd voor opkomende artiesten hadden gewonnen, georganiseerd door een groot rocktijdschrift. Dit leidde ertoe dat ze werden uitgenodigd om op te treden op een van de belangrijkste rockevenementen van Japan, ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2014, en in 2015 werden ze ook gevraagd om een nummer te schrijven voor Shiritsu Ebisu Chugakou, een van de meest gevraagde idoolgroepen van Japan. Op oudejaarsavond 2019/2020 trad Mahousyoujoninaritai op tijdens COUNTDOWN JAPAN 19/20, het beroemdste en belangrijkste nieuwjaarsevenement van Japan.
De groep maakte ook hun Amerikaanse debuut tijdens een veelbesproken optreden op SxSW 2015 in Texas, waar ze door NPR Radio werden bestempeld als een “absolute must-see”. Hun optreden is zeer energiek en absoluut uniek van stijl – een live optreden zoals je nog nooit eerder hebt meegemaakt!

The trio, consisting of frontwoman Kazi Baziru (vocals), Gari (vocals/scream) and Ui Viton (guitar), aims to conquer the hearts of fans of the harder genre with their wild mix of metal, punk and EDM all over the world.

Mahousyoujoninaritai, literally meaning “wanting to be a magical girl,” is a band formed in 2014 by producer/developer, ADULT YUkun, as a five-piece commercial and creative team. Members also regularly collaborate with illustrators, photographers and other young, up-coming creators in both studio recordings and live performances. They have been labeled under SONY MUSIC until 2020.
Mahousyoujoninaritai has done the theme song for the popular japanese Anime „Pazudora“, which was used for 2 years. They have covered a couple of very famous anime songs from „Ojamajo Doremi“,ONE PEACE“,“Haruhi“ and more.
The band sounds part metal, punk and EDM, while infusing elements of role- playing games, not only in their songs and lyrics, but also their videos and live performances, creating an all-new “Japanese alternative” genre. Their unique approach to music and performing has caught the attention of fans and the music industry, having won a prestigious contest for up-and-coming artists hosted by a major rock magazine merely four months since forming the band. This led to them being invited to perform at one of Japan’s leading rock events, ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL 2014, and in 2015 they’ve also been tapped to write a song for Shiritsu Ebisu Chugakou, one of Japan’s most in-demand idol groups. On New Year’s Eve 2019/2020, Mahousyoujoninaritai performed at COUNTDOWN JAPAN 19/20, Japan’s most famous and important new year’s event.

Interview

What is the story behind the band’s name?
Baziru:"Mahousyoujoninaritai literally means “becoming a magical girl”. Becoming a magical girl is actually impossible. But when we become famous, the world will call Baziru [band’s front woman] as" a magical girl. " It's a hidden meaning that no matter how impossible it is, your dreams will come true."

How would you describe your sound to new listeners?
Baziru:"Pop, loud and fantasy." Lots of excitement in a single song. You've never seen a band like this before."

What’s the origin story of the band?
Baziru:"Baziru is cursed by a witch and is on an adventure to break the curse. To make Baziru a great magical girl."

What do you like the most about performing on stage?
Baziru:"To get a lot of smiles and energy. It is my treasure."

What was the craziest that happened during a tour or show?
Baziru:"Our members have a VJ (Video Jockey) person. And at KNOTFEST JAPAN 2016 we brought in a huge screen to perform live. Slipknot saw it and said "there is a band doing something more awesome than us". We were so happy to perform with the band of our dreams."

Does the band got enough opportunities to play in the metalscene in Japan?
Baziru:"The Japanese metal scene has fewer opportunities than overseas. I wish more metal lovers will come to Japan."

How was it to play again on Knotfest this year?
Baziru:"It was postponed for the second time, but I'm glad it was held.
It was really fun. It was like a dream and it was great. Slipknot is my eternal dream, and I definitely want to perform with them again."

How does the process look of making a new song?

Baziru:"Ui Biton (Guitarist) writes the music and Baziru (Vo)writes the lyrics. Gari(VJ)makes the video. The team divides the work between them."

Are there any future plans for a new album?
Baziru:"I'd like to try English lyrics since I'm going abroad more often. If I do that, I can reach more people. I want more people to know about us. I also want to release songs filled with Japanese culture like Hime-sama Spirits."

What is the message behind the music?
Baziru:"You are the hero of this game called life. You can reset and start over as many times as you want. It's not game over."

How did you end up in the metal scene?
Baziru:"Ui loves metal and it has a very big influence on our music.I was bullied when I was a student, but listening to Slipknot on my way to school made me feel strong and encouraged me a lot."

If you could change something in the world, what would that be?
Baziru:"I want to change the world to a world where kind people are rewarded.Sadly, there are many opportunities for kind people to lose out. I think there is nothing more beautiful than working hard and caring for others. However, it is often taken advantage of, made fun of, or trampled on. I wish for such a world where kind people can live with a smile on their face."
