De Amerikaanse progressive death metal band Fallujah vindt zijn oorsprong in 2007. De band is één van de pionieren van atmosferische death metal.

Zanger Alex Hoffman verklaart zich hierover: "I think the metal scene is immeasurably lacking in bands that offer emotional and atmospheric material. Metal can’t remain as single serving as it is and hope to keep relevance. Bands need to bring a knockout live show and make the audience actually feel something other than mere impulse. It is for this reason that I think the world (or the metal world for that matter) has already been waiting for a band like Fallujah."

Met hun debuutalbum ‘The Harvest Wombs’ had de band de muziekwereld in vuur en vlam gezet, progressive metal met jazz rock invloeden. Met het volgende album ‘The Flesh Prevails’ bracht Fallujah een atmosferische en intensieve diepgang. Ze werden toen ook wel in het deathcore genre geplaatst. Maar daar waren de bandleden van Fallujah het niet mee eens, aangezien ze in hun ogen een breed muziekpallet aan de luisteraar leveren.

Met het nieuwe album ‘Dreamless’ heeft de band een emotionele band gecreëerd met hun teksten. Nummers zoals The Void Alone en Face Of Death hebben minder muzikaal ritme, meer groove en zijn een proefbare emotionaliteit voor de luisteraar. In plaats van snelheid en atmosferische ritmes van het vorige album, zal het nieuwe album ‘Dreamless’ een helder, sterk en emotioneler album zijn.

Alex Hoffman verklaart: "This album is a major step forward with the goal in mind of transcending the limitations of not only the death metal sound but the scene at large. Anyone who is a Fallujah fan will put the record on and immediately know who it is they are listening to, but there’s a diverse palette represented here that our previous albums lacked. The aim of the album seemed a lot more focused this time with what we wanted to achieve. With each album we write it become apparent that we get better at actual songwriting."

Tekstueel is het nieuw album een hoogtepunt. Het album varieert zich tekstueel tot verschillende perspectieven. "The main theme revolves around various films and the emotions they evoke from my own past’, verklaart Alex Hoffman. ‘Each song manifest not only the themes with dialogue, but the colors and cinematography as well. I found it refreshing not to have to dig deep back into my own head and try to force a sense of artistic flare on ideas or experiences that in many ways are not grimly poetic. Telling a story about the struggles of characters in an environment that is real and down to earth was so interesting because there is no sense of insincerity. You are in many ways retelling a story from your own perspective, one that is driven by empathy and common experience."

Het album ‘Dreamless’ stelt de luisteraar de vraag om diep binnen zijn/haar hart te kijken, om te voelen hoe en wat muziek is en om Fallujah een kans te geven om naar hun diepere ‘ik’ te zoeken. Sommige melodische progressieve melodieën zijn absoluut hoogwaardig en adembenemend. Het is creatief, assertief, ritmisch, zwevend en structureel. Het staat dus in contrast met de titel van het album: ‘Dreamless’.
